Well 2011-2012 FCYBL season is in the books.
I wanted to update the site's main page for all to see until we continue our journey in October.
Accolades!!
I wanted to take the time on the site to officially recognize our champions and All League Players and Coach.
We had the following 3 teams finish in 2nd place during the regular season:
Boys 5th Grade D3 - McKenzie
Boys 6th Grade D3 - Nimmo
Boys 7th Grade D1 - Griffin
We also had 2 Champions this year:
Boys 5th Grade D3 - McKenzie
Coach McKenzie's boys were a well rounded team that caught fire to close the season with an 11 game run on through to the finals. This team of 5th and 4th graders has a bright future!
Boys 6th Grade D3 - Nimmo
Coach Nimmo's shooting assasins finished strong with a 13 game winning streak, avenging earlier losses and terrorized the 6th grade division. Dohn keeps these boys busy in many tournaments as well as the FCYBL play. All the hard work paid off and brought home the FCYBL hardware to Herndon!
Congratulations to both teams on a great season!
All County Players
While I am proud of all the players that donned the Red and White uniforms this year, the following players were selected by opposing coaches as the best in the county:
Girls 5th Grade D2
Olivia Nielsen
Girls 8th Grade D2
Chase Cooksey
Marie McNary
Boys 5th Grade D3
Ben Medvene
Jaden Snead
Boys 6th Grade D3
Darryl Gregory
Chris Logan
Corey Myers
Most Valuable Coach
Dohn Nimmo (6th Grade Boys)
*collects his 3rd League MVC award!
Congratulations Hornets!
Good Luck Rising 9th Graders
FCYBL is a league designed to replace middle school basketball in Fairfax County.
That said, one of HOYTB's main goals is to prepare our players for high school athletics.
I would like to wish all our 8th grade players the best of luck in high school next year. Regardless if you represent Herndon, South Lakes, Madison, Chantilly or elsewhere, take with you the skills and knowledge you aquired here from our great coaches and use them at the next level. You will always be Hornets to me!
Thank You!
Chris and I wanted to thank all of our players, coaches, parents and fans for making this a great season. It was my first as commisioner and outside of a few issues we have a good roadmap to extend this season's success into the future.
I personally wanted to thank the following people, all volunteers mind you, whose help and advice were invaluable to the league and myself:
Jasmine Faubert
Chris Watari
Dohn Nimmo
Tommy Benton
Terry Petty
Paul Brown
Suzette Cooksey
Please email me with any information or suggestions you think would assist us in making us a better organization.
Eric Cooksey
HOYTB Commissioner
